EUGEN JOCHUM AWARD 2017

The Eugen-Jochum-Award 2017 presented by the Eugen Jochum Foundation was awarded on November 22nd by Veronica Jochum von Moltke, daughter of Eugen Jochum, at the Rubinsteinsaal Steinway Munich to Conductor Thomas Jung. The Eugen Jochum Foundation and Veronica Jochum von Moltke praised Thomas Jung's engagement for young conductors, contemporary music and his remarkable interpretations of the works by Mozart.
The Eugen-Jochum-Award is presented since 2012 on behalf of Conductor Eugen Jochum, first Music Director and founder of the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks. Most talented and dedicated yung conductors will be honoured with this prize.

Thomas Jung's mentor of many years, Bernard Haitink, commented on the 2017 awarding:

»I am delighted to hear that Thomas Jung has been awarded the Eugen Jochum Prize for Young Conductors for 2017. I have known Thomas for several years, and have been very happy to watch his progress and development as a conductor. He is a very thoughtful musician, whose love for music comes across through his conducting. He is worthy of the support this prize will bring him. I am especially pleased because of the great respect and affection I had for Eugen Jochum, who was one of the most influential conductors of his generation and with whom I came into close contact during our years as co-conductors of the Concertgebouw Orchestra. I am happy that his spirit lives on through this award.«
